What is a Nation? :: essays research papers

Essay 3: What is a Nation? A nation, as defined in Webster’s Universal College Dictionary, is â€Å"a body of people, associated with a particular territory, that is sufficiently conscious of its unity to seek or to possess a government peculiarly its own.† This definition is correct, but leaves so much unsaid. The word nation is actually derived from the Latin word natio that means birth. It represents the beginning of something. London had a miraculous â€Å"birth† in the year 0. This corresponds to the Virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus. When people speak of â€Å"country (nation) matters†, another Latin term comes into play, with matter meaning mother. A country must have a mother as a mother gives birth, which links back to a nation meaning birth. Now that the definition and meaning of a nation are provided, a common question comes to mind. What makes a territory a nation? A nation consists of three main items: documents, ideology, and language. Documents can be described as legal forms that state we are a nation, ideology includes a set of doctrines or beliefs that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system, and language come from sharing the same â€Å"mother tongue†. â€Å"Mother tongue† is the language that belongs to one’s identity. People who share these common elements represent the same nation. People who do not belong in a nation are those who do not possess the same elements above with anyone. For example, in Beowulf, Grendel and his mother did not have a nation and were therefore, angry with those who did. They were on the outside looking in and because of this outcast feeling, were angry. Grendel was even angrier because he was still living with his mother. They are roamers who do not belong anywhere. This can also be linked to the dragon and the Spear Danes not being a part of a nation, either, at the beg inning. National identity is always linked to religious identity, as well. Although the United States has many different religions, they are all legal practices here. Other countries may have another, different religion, which is why the people live, and are a part of that nation. We are born into a nation, and therefore are molded in a certain way and our beliefs lean toward what we are taught. With these shared beliefs, we share a common interest with others which is another aspect that makes people part of a nation.

With these establishments, Cadbury products are made widely available and accessible to the main target markets  ¡ Marketing channel performs the work of moving goods of producers to consumers (see figure)  ¡ A manufacturer selling a physical product and services might require three channels: sales, delivery and service  ¡ Cadbury use Sales Managers and Reps as sales channels, telephone, email and face to face as delivery channels and again Reps and Merchandisers for the setting up and display of products and promotions as service channels (with regards to the supermarkets)  ¡ Wholesalers are a vital part of the supply chain for independent outlets and eventually the consumer.  ¡ Cadbury uses intensive distribution method, as it attempts to place its products in as many establishments as possible. Factors that influence the design and management of marketing channels  ¡ Consumers are motivated by the presence of brands, they expect to see them and want to buy them  ¡ Cadbury products are primarily available in supermarkets and convenience stores and display remains one of the key areas for development not only within these to channels, but also independent retail  ¡ Confectionery requires a great deal of consideration when optimising  displays so Cadbury has created the ‘Go Another Cadbury’ bespoke display solution to address merchandising opportunities in the impulse trade channel.  ¡ Cadbury studies, in recent years, show that the confectionery industry has shown the effects of an increasing move by consumers towards convenience shopping  ¡ Convenience shopping is being able to convert customer footfall into purchases. How Revenge Lead to Tragedy Revenge played a major part in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In the play, the main character Hamlet has to decide whether or not to avenge his father’s death by killing his uncle Claudius. Hamlet’s indecisiveness caused many to lose their lives. Hamlet had the opportunity to kill Claudius, but did not take it. â€Å"The uncertainty about the nature of the old King s death also confuses the matter. Hamlet feels unable to take revenge unless he is absolutely sure of Claudius guilt† (Themes). If Hamlet had taken the opportunity and killed him, the entire story might have played out very differently. Hamlet’s desire for revenge led to the tragedy of the kingdom. Claudius never had thoughts of taking revenge on Hamlet until he realized that he had become aware of his guilt in the murder of his own brother. Claudius’ emotions are feelings of revenge because of his desire to possess what the King had; what he thought he deserved. He wanted the throne and the queen, so he killed him to get those things. Hamlet wanted to make Claudius aware that he knew what he had done, so he held a play. In an effort to cover his guilt following the performance, Claudius knew that he would have to take revenge on Hamlet by killing him. He knew that if he killed Hamlet everyone would get very angry because of their love for him. So instead, he sent Hamlet to England to die there. Claudius’ plan did not work because Hamlet, on the ship to England, found out about it. Claudius devised a new plan; which involved the deception of Laertes. He told Laertes that Hamlet had killed his father Polonius. This revelation now gives Laertes a reason to take reve nge upon Hamlet.
